Friday Aug. 18, 2017

Check EOW folders for fall picture forms, book order forms, etc.

We are so excited for Monday's eclipse...we practiced using our safety glasses, we've learned about the stages (contacts) of a solar eclipse, identified the path of totality in North America, and compared/contrasted solar versus lunar eclipses this week.  We have a jam-packed day planned for monday with lessons about the sun's corona, eclipse observations, sketches and journals. This will be an experience the students will always remember for the rest of their lives!

Important dates:
Friday Aug. 25th:  Color Run forms due for early registration
Thursday Aug. 31st:  Fall picture day

Homework Wednesday Aug. 16, 2017

We had a FANTASTIC first day of school!  We spent the day unpacking, organizing, and labeling supplies, reviewing Gardner Great Expectations , reading letters from former students, creating self-portraits, and other back-to-school activities while getting to know one another.  Homework tonight includes...

Finish your "Super Me" pennant to be displayed in the hallway
Prepare your "Get to Know Me" bag

Return permission slips (if you haven't done so already) such as:
Solar Eclipse and lunch choice for the day
E-reader waiver
Permission to walk to Zahnow to meet with our kindergarten reading buddies
Parent packet sign-off sheet

Looking forward to tomorrow as we continue our "Get to Know You" activities, begin start of the year assessments in math and reading, learn about the solar eclipse phenomenon, and begin working on a "Super Student Poster."
