MY MATH CLASS:  In unit 3 this week students will estimate and assess reasonableness of answers to fraction addition and subtraction problems, and explore strategies for adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers with like and unlike denominators.

SOCIAL STUDIES: In our study of the 13 colonies, the students are taking a close look at the Northern New England region. They're learning how colonists interacted with local American Indians, why the Puritans settled in this area, and about its resources and economy as well as some of the different trades colonists were well known for.

READING:  Our novel study on the "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" is in its 6th chapter.  While reading this fantasy classic students read like writers by identifying some of its literary elements such as the setting, mood, main character traits, and the author's style and craft. In small group reading students are enjoying a leveled non-fiction book and will begin PARCC practice texts soon.

LANGUAGE ARTS:  Opinion writing has begun with modeled and shared writing of leads with hooks and attention grabbers.  Students are learning opinion writing organization, paragraph transitions, and how to group topics into body paragraphs.  Spelling unit 15 lessons will take place all week with a test on Friday.
