MY MATH CLASS:  In unit 3 this SHORT week the kids have been practicing re-naming mixed numbers and improper fractions.

SOCIAL STUDIES: In our study of the 13 colonies, the students are learning about the middle (Mid-Atlantic) colonies specifically of how the Quakers settled in the region after relocating from the New England area and how many Europeans made the Atlantic crossing to be a part of their culture.  We're comparing and contrasting the topography, economics, the colonists' way of life, and use of resources of this area with the New England region.

READING:  Our novel study on the "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" is in its 8th chapter.  While reading this fantasy classic students read like writers by identifying some of its literary elements such as the setting, mood, main character traits, and the author's style and craft.  We're discussing the rising action of the plot and determining the overall problem. In small group reading students will soon begin another fiction novel and have started PARCC practice texts.

LANGUAGE ARTS:  In our opinion unit, students have chosen a topic to practice writing an introduction paragraph with an attention-grabbing hook.  Next week we'll begin writing body paragraphs with transitions.  Spelling unit 16 lessons will take place all week with a test on Friday.
