Monday March 5, 2018

Math:  This week the students are rounding decimals and then adding using partial-sums and traditional methods.  We'll begin preparing for the unit 4 test on Thursday...the test will be taken either on Friday or early next week!

Reading: We're enjoying our novel unit on the classic Folktale "Maniac Magee" by Jerry Spinelli.  As we read we're identifying similies, metaphors, hyperboles, and idioms.  We'll be analyzing the relationships between main characters, continuing determining the meanings of unfamiliar words using context clues and discuss the rising action of the story plot.

Writing:  Now that we've finished our second writing unit we'll review the steps of the writing process and begin mini-lessons and short writing pieces relating to strong adjectives and adverbs.

Spelling:  In unti 21 next week we'll be reviewing homophones such as there, their, and they're.

Social Studies:  In lesson 2 of our government unit we've been taking a close look at the three branches of government.  We're comparing the powers of each branch and the system of checks and balances.  Kids are preparing to present their Google Slides assigned topic relating to this unit later this week!
