Math:  The students took their unit 4 assessment on Monday.  In unit 5 the class will learn different strategies on how to find common denominators to add and subtract fractions or mixed numbers

Reading: We're enjoying our novel unit on the classic Folktale "Maniac Magee" by Jerry Spinelli.  As we read we're identifying similies, metaphors, hyperboles, and idioms.  We're using context clues to determine the meanings of unfamiliar words, we're comparing characters' reactions and decisions and identifying problems and solutions throughout the story.

Writing:  Students have been studying adjectives and identifying those that are vivid and descriptive.  They're drawing/coloring a "monster' poster based off of the book "I Need My Monster" by Amanda Noll.  They'll be writing a descriptive paragraph that'll accompany their creation.

Spelling:  In unti 23 next week we'll be studying homographs.

Social Studies:  In lesson 3 of our government unit the kids have been learning about the new, ratified government and about the federalists and anti-federalists views of this new document.  We'll review and discuss the Bill of Rights amendments and discuss how the Constitution can undergo change.
