Math: We finished unit 1 and are preparing for the assessment next week. Study guide #1 was almost completed in class today...study guide #2 will be given on Tuesday. The test will be given on Wednesday.
Social Studies: We started our map unit this week focusing on Earth's continents, bodies of water, mountain ranges and some countries. The kids reviewed cardinal and intermediate directions and look forward to learning about important land features next week.
Writing: Unit 4 spelling test was given...the kids received a unit 5 list today. Students completed an action/linking verb assessment. Together we wrote "verb" poems titled "Cures for a Boring..." They wrote a final verb poem with a partner. They typed it, printed it, and brought it home in their EOW folders. Next week we'll begin reviewing the concept of a sentence (subject/predicate) and start "hamburger writing" (writing paragraphs focusing on the main idea, details, and a closing sentence).
Reading: We finished our "theme" study with an assessment. Next week we'll re-visit author's point of view in poetry. Small-groups began this week...each group is half way through their first non-fiction book.
